Year 1 w/b 4th December 2023

It’s been another wonderful week to teach Year One and we have thoroughly enjoyed performing our Prickly Hay nativity for you. It is a privilege to be telling the story of the first Christmas and we have been amazed at the children’s confidence and joy as they shared the story of the birth of Jesus with everyone.  

The children have worked so hard preparing for the nativity and I’m sure you will agree they were incredible during their performances. We are so proud of every one of them and hope you thoroughly enjoyed watching the nativity.  Alongside individual certificates, our whole class received our star of the week award this week for their hard work and wonderful singing. As you will have read on the blog last week, this week has been assessment week. We are so proud of the progress we have seen in all areas of learning. This week we completed our final piece of English writing based around our key text Beegu. It was fantastic to see so many Year One writing skills (shared last week), thoughtful ideas and creative writing. We also completed our maths assessments and were very pleased to see how much children have learnt, retained, and could recall. Our reading assessment reviewed the recall of taught phonics sounds, the use of these known sounds in real words and nonsense/alien words, and speedy reading fluency. Each child completed their reading assessments in school on Friday and next week they will bring home a book on Monday corresponding to their assessed reading level.

We have another busy week ahead of us next week with our trip to the theatre on Tuesday, our class space day on Thursday and our Key Stage One Christmas party afternoon on Friday.
