Year 1 w/b 31st March 2025

Date: 4th Apr 2025 @ 4:10pm

We have thoroughly enjoyed our last week of the Spring term!

In English, we have written our information texts about one of the Wild Things and wow… they are fantastic! It has been great to see so many creative facts and a variety of exciting language features in the children’s writing.

In phonics, we have focused on the sounds y (happy family), a-e (make a cake) and i-e (nice smile). We have taught all the sounds required by the end of Year one and we shall focus on revising /revisiting taught sounds and reading them in real and nonsense words. We have also carried our reading assessments so some children may have moved book colour whilst others need a little longer to embed their recall of taught sounds so they can read the words with accuracy and speed.

In maths, we have started our ‘Length and height’ unit. We have focused on comparing lengths and heights of objects using language such as “longer than”, “shorter than” and “taller than”. Later in the week we looked at measuring the lengths and heights of objects, using non-standard units of measure such as cubes or paper clips.

In worship on Monday, we shared our thoughts on what forgiveness means to us.

In RE this week, we have been exploring Easter around the world. We learned that some people in Germany enjoy designing their own egg to hang on their Easter tree and in Mexico, parades are held on Palm Sunday and palm crosses are blessed.

In computing, we used a computer to make a list of the materials that we might want to use to create a rocket.

In our Art of Brilliance assembly on Tuesday, we shared with the school the activities we have been doing this half term to be our best brilliant selves. We particularly enjoyed handing out our happiness stickers to those who are happy all the time for no reason. We hope these made you smile!

We are delighted to welcome Mrs Coles into our Year One team who will work alongside Mrs Marshfield, Miss Moran and Mrs Ball.

Today we said goodbye to the wonderful Mrs Griffiths. I want to say a huge thank you to her dedication and commitment to Year One and wish her the best of luck for the future.

I hope you all enjoy a restful Easter break, and I shall look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Tuesday 22nd April when we have another interesting and creative half term of learning planned.
