Year 1 w/b 28th September
Date: 4th Oct 2020 @ 2:10pm
This week in Year One we have had lots of fun both inside and outside of the classroom. In Art we looked at the work of William Morris. Our class favourite was his work entitled ‘Strawberry Thief’. In Forest School this week we continued our Art learning and went to forage for interesting items including leaves, acorns, sycamore seeds, pinecones etc and used our finds to make William Morris inspired artwork.
In English we have continued to build on our understanding of ‘escape’ stories and started to write our own. We each made up our ‘good’ and ‘bad’ characters. Ask your child about their stories!
In Maths we have been continuing to build our understanding of number. We have looked at how to use a 10s frame to support our understanding of numbers and the speedy recall of one more or one less than any given number (up to 10, 20 and beyond).
We have introduced our new HeartSmart PSHE unit of work. You might have seen your child come home with the HeartSmart power on buttons they made to help them to think about helping their own and other people’s hearts to feel good.
In Science we looked at how the appearance of an apple tree changes through the seasons. We have also continued to look at the differences between evergreen and deciduous trees. In forest schools we are now able to identify the names of a range of trees in our school grounds.
Finally, in Collective worship our focus has been on Jesus’ teaching to not worry and have belief in yourself and we focused on the life of Gladys Aylward 1902-1970. In RE we continued to create our class creation picture using fabrics sketches before we wrote about the importance of creation for Christians . We also had our school photographs this week; we can’t believe how grown up they all look in them!
