What a busy but exciting week we have had in Year One!
In our English lessons this week, we have planned our very own traditional narratives where a good character is trapped by a bad character and escapes. The children have had some incredibly creative ideas and we are looking forward to writing our narratives next week.
In phonics we have focused on split digraphs: a-e (make a cake) and e-e (Go Pete and Steve).
In maths this week, we have continued with our shapes unit. We have been focusing on the following:
- Sorting and grouping 3D shapes according to simple properties, including type, size and colour.
- Naming 2D shapes, such as triangles, squares, rectangles and circles.
- Sorting and grouping 2D shapes according to simple properties, including type, size and colour.
- Creating repeating patterns with 2D and 3D shapes.
RE focused on how we know Jesus was a Jewish boy. We learned how he went to school at a Synagogue and observed Shabbat and Passover.
We have enjoyed learning more of the words and Makaton signs to our nativity songs with Year Two. We are so excited to be spending more time in the hall next week rehearsing ‘Busy Busy Bethlehem’.
In computing this week, we used Sketchpad to design our own scene from the Three Little Pigs. We are looking forward to creating our self-portraits next week.
There has been lots of enthusiasm in DT this week! Last week the children chose their fabric and attached their pattern (Rapunzel’s friend). This week we have continued cutting out of the fabric and joining two pieces of fabric together by gluing, safety pinning or stapling.
A huge thank you to Mrs Windsor for being our mystery reader this week! We loved listening to your stories.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
Miss Roxburgh
