What a super week we have had!
In English we have been focusing on information texts about the ‘Wild Things’. After carefully looking at the features of an information texts and learning a text about ‘Sharp Teeth Sid’ we were able to plan our own information text about a different ‘Wild Thing’. It was great to see the children taking such care in their plans and I am looking forward to seeing the writing process next week.
In phonics, we have focused on the sound ‘ie’ (terrible tie). We have started to complete reading assessments, and the outcome of this will be shared with children once all assessments are completed next week.
In maths, we have continued with our unit ‘Place value within 50’. We have been focusing on the following:
- Partitioning numbers to 50 using part-whole models
- Using a number line to 50 (counting in 1s and 10s)
- Estimating the positions of numbers on number lines up to 50
In science we have been classifying animals based on what they eat. We therefore now know what a herbivore, omnivore and carnivore is and animals that can be grouped into one of these groups.
In PSHE, we made happiness stickers for people we believe are happy all the time. We are looking forward to handing these out in worship next week.
In RE, we have been retelling the events of the Easter story.
In PE, we challenged ourselves to how many bounces we could do in 30 seconds before swapping with our partner. It has been great to see how much progress the children have made with throwing and catching since the start of our half term.
On Tuesday, we were very lucky to have a special visit from the theatre. The children loved watching The Jungle Book!
It was delightful to share the Mothering Sunday service with so many of you on Thursday and thank you to all the children across the Key stage for their contributions to the service.
Next week will be Mrs Griffiths’ final week with us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her commitment and dedication to Year One and she will be very missed by us all.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
