Year 1 w/b 13th January 2025

Date: 17th Jan 2025 @ 3:48pm

We have enjoyed another week of learning in Year One!

During our English lessons, we have put our detective hats on and looked carefully for language features in our Hermelin text, for example plurals (adding s/es to words), the prefux ‘un’ and adjectives to describe the missing items. Next week, we will plan and begin to write our own detective narratives.

Phonics has focused on er (better letter) and ow (brown cow).

In our maths lessons, we have focused on the following:

  • Building on our understanding of the number line to 20. We know that 1 more is the next number along the number line, while 1 less is the previous number.
  • Estimating on a number line by finding the halfway point.

In PE, we focused on accurate kicking to a partner and stopping the ball with the sole and inside of the foot using our dominant foot.

In music, we listened to a variety of recorded sounds, for example birds tweeting, and focused on identifying the pitch (how high or low a sound is) and dynamics (how quiet or loud the sound is).

In geography we continue to look at life on a farm and recapped the three types of farms before looking at buildings and areas on a farm e.g., the farmhouse or hay barn.

Design technology checked our understanding of the difference between a fruit and vegetable.

In science we looked a variety of objects in our classroom and worked as a team to think about what material it came from.

In RE, we explored the calming of the storm from Luke 8 v22-25. We considered why and how the waves and wind obeyed Jesus and the ways we calm when we feel scared or anxious. We then made our own artwork of the storm. These were fantastic!

I hope you have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing everybody on Monday.
