Year 1 w/b 10th February 2025

Date: 13th Feb 2025 @ 5:13pm

We had a super last week of learning in Year One!

In English, we planned and wrote our letters to somebody on Offley Street explaining where there missing item was located.

In phonics, we focused on ure (sure it is pure) and tion (pay attention it is a celebration).

In maths, we explored doubles and near doubles so if we know 6+6 =12, 6+7 must be 1 more and 13.

We had a fantastic afternoon trip to a local farm in Brereton where we were shown around by Farmer Wendy, Farmer Derik, and Farmer Ruth. They introduced us to the adult cows, teenage cows, and a 4-day old calf. We also looked at some of the farm building including the milking parlour and cow shed. It was very interesting to see the different foods eaten by the cows including the bucket of silage. We couldn’t believe that cows eat about ten buckets full each day! Finally, before leaving we all got the chance to sit on the tractor like real farmers. This was such a fun and interesting afternoon out to support our learning in Geography this half term. We hope you enjoy looking at the pictures below.

On Tuesday it was Safer Internet Day and the theme was ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online’. After listening to the story ‘Digiduck’s Big Decision’, we thought about five trusted adults that we could talk to if we felt worried about something.

In DT, we used our design from last week to make our own moving pictures. We started off creating our own Offley Street and then we made our own character move across the street. We had a range of characters including Hermelin, Emily, Baby Mcmumbo and Lucky the goldfish. Finally, we evaluated our moving pictures identifying what went well and what we would improve next time and we had a quiz to assess our understanding of mechanisms.

I hope you all enjoy a restful break and I look forward to seeing everybody on Monday 24th February.
