We have had a lovely week in year 1! This week in phonics we have focussed on the oi and oy sounds. Thank you for your help with spellings and reading at home. Well done to Elena, our super speller of the week.
We continued to focus on addition and subtraction in maths and began to look at missing number problems and adding and subtracting 10. In English we became trainee knights! On Monday I played the role of the king and Miss Goff trained our knights in how to rescue a king. We then learned the instructional text and did various writing tasks surrounding it, such as writing a recount. We also created freeze frames to sequence and retell the instructions.
In RE our focus has been on good news and we looked at the parable where Jesus talks about building a house on rock or on sand and we designed our own rocks which we will write our Christian values on. On Tuesday the children practised key skills with me and on Wednesday learned the importance of staying safe online with Mrs Taylor. We also monitored and observed our broad bean plants which are growing very well and are now quite tall, with green leaves. The plant in the cupboard is quite tall but due to the lack of sunlight is white and leafless.
