We have had an exciting week in year 1! This week in phonics we have focussed on the ew sound as in ‘chew the stew.’ Thank you for your help with spellings and reading at home. Well done to Charlie, our super speller of the week.
We continued to focus on addition and subtraction in maths and focused on 10 more and less. In English we put our knight training into action and wrote instructions to rescue another character.
We had a wonderful end to the week with Once Upon a Time day and Diwali day! We enjoyed dressing up on Thursday as a fairy tale character. We wrote about who we were and drew a picture, as well as ballroom dancing in preparation for our trip to Tatton Park. Then, we learned the story of the Gingerbread Man and decorated and ate our very own Gingerbread Man. In the afternoon, we had lots of fun making and painting castles as part of our stay and make.
On Diwali day, the children first of all found out a little bit about Diwali and watched some videos of Hindu people celebrating Diwali. We also watched the story of Rama and Sita. After that reception, year 1 and 2 split into mixed age groups and enjoyed making sweet truffles, divas and enjoyed Bollywood dancing. Later on in the day, everyone enjoyed trying Indian starters and the truffles that we made earlier in the day!
