Week beginning 7.11.16

We have had another super week in year 2. Well done to our star speller Isabelle, who has been spotting words with the 'le' sound at the end. This week in phonics we were looking at when a word ends in 'il', such as in words like 'pencil.' Thank you again for your help with spellings and with homework. Do not worry if your child found question 2 tricky on mymaths, as we haven't covered division yet in year 2. The real focus was question 1, as we covered multiplication using repeated addition and arrays in our maths. 

In literacy, as many of you saw on Friday, we were learning the story of Flo of the Somme, using actions. The children did very well in class and we were able to film this, so have a look if you haven't done so already. See if they can retell the story using the actions they learned. The children did extremely well on Friday and all of the staff and lots of parents told us how well we did! We were very impressed and proud of their performance for our Remebrance service. 

In RE we looked at the story of the Good Samaritan, while we focused on Remembrance in our topic lesson. The children created a fantastic poppy wreath on a paper plate and the children thought of and wrote their own acrostic poem to remember those brave soldiers and animals that have died for us in and since World War I. In computing we started to look at programming using the app Bee-Bot, which got progressively more challenging as they worked through it. 

We are looking forward to our trip on Thursday to Nantwich museum. A note has been written in the children's planners regarding uniform. Year 2 wiill need to wear uniform on Thursday for the trip, but we do not want them to miss out. Therefore if they bring in a tombola prize on Friday, they are welcome to wear their own clothes, as we will have our own non-uniform day in year 2.
