Week beginning 5th June
Date: 9th Jun 2017 @ 3:41pm
It has been a lovely first week back in Year 1 this week. In Literacy we have divided straight into learning our new fiction story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. The children have engaged with this so well that we have been able to move onto our innovation stage already! We have changed the main character to a lion and planned our journey taking into consideration their habitat and natural surroundings.
In Maths, we have been completing a variety of activities; sequencing, different times during the day, days of the week, and months of the year. We have also begun to look at the different seasons in the year; this is something the children are now becoming really confident with. This week in particular the children have brought many of their experience from home into lessons; discussing when birthdays occur in the family and their own understanding of weather patterns in seasons.
In RE this week we have looked at what religion means to us as individuals. We have thought about our own faith and many other different faiths around the world. This has demonstrated just how thoughtful, compassionate and understanding all of the year 1 children are.
In PE we have continued our work on athletics. The children have worked well in teams and motivated each other when they have dropped into second or third place.
Next week we have our phonics screening assessments on Tuesday. This will mean nothing different for the children other than completing their phonics session with Miss Goff as opposed to their normal phonics teacher.
On Wednesday we have our trip to Trentham Gardens. I have attached a list of the things the children will need below and we will be leave and returning to school at normal time.
Kit List:
Rucksack
Small towel
Small teddy
Lunch- if it has not been ordered from school
To wear:
School shirt and jumper
Own trousers - these must roll up into shorts, but not to a pair of shorts as there are lots of stinging nettles along the woodland walk
Own shoes - wellies if the weather deems appropriate
If you have any queries please don't hesitate to contact me.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and the sun continues to shine.
