Week beginning 20th March

Date: 24th Mar 2017 @ 4:06pm

What a busy week it has been in Year 1! This week we have been using so many skills as we have been; writing stories, creating art using vegetables, exploring different plants, looking in more detail at the Easter story and learning sugar paste and icing skills.

In Literacy, we have been using the structure of the story Captain Yellowbelly - The Tale of The Terrible Pirate and creating narrative stories using the characters from Shrek. The children have loved exploring the film in more detail, particularly looking at the variety of adjectives that can be used to describe the characters in the film. We will finish this next week and hope to be able to publish them to go onto our publishing pegs.

In Maths, we have been looking at fractions. We have explored half and a quarter of quantities, shapes and objects. The children have loved using apparatus to complete a variety of tasks. Today we even looked at seperating sweets between 4 pupils; this really fired the children’s imagination for what else they could cut and divide into quarters.

In Science this week we have worked hard on recognising a variety of common plants as well as looking at the different parts of the plant. The children were able to identify the root, stem, leaf and flower. This is all in preparation for planting our potatoes next week.

In RE we have continued to look at the Easter story. The children were able to recall the key events and it helped them to understand and engage with our Easter service at Church even more.

We would like to thank you for your support with another wonderful Church service. The children had a fantastic time and we hope you enjoyed our acrostic poem. We will be recording it on Monday to put onto the website, so anyone who missed it will be able to see it.

Hope you all a wonderful weekend.
