Week beginning 21.11.16

Date: 27th Nov 2016 @ 12:00pm

We had an exciting week in year 2, whereby we started to rehearse for our nativity! Thank you for your help at home, with rehearsing and learning lines. The performances are on the 13th and 14th of December (Tuesday and Wednesday), so it is essential that the children try to learn their lines as soon as possible. For the hosts, who are like the TV presenters, it may be possible to have the script on the day of the performance, to refer to, but not read off, due to the sheer quantity of lines, which can be put on a clipboard. I for one, am very excited about performing this nativity, as the script is ambitious, but will be fantastic! We have all had great fun this week rehearsing.

This week in phonics, we were looking at suffixes, specifically when 'er' and 'est' are added to words ending in 'y', such as 'happy.' When this happens, you drop the 'y' and add an 'i' before the 'er' or 'est.' Thank you for your help this week; we had some fantastic results again on Friday.

Well done to everyone for trying their best this week on the assessments in SPAG, spelling, maths and reading. In maths this week, we have focused on fractions, looking at halves, quarters, thirds and fractions of a quantity, such as finding one quarter of 16. In literacy we have been learning a non fiction text, following our Talk for Writing style of approach, beginning to write a newspaper report at the end of the week. We also had a special visitor in year 2 this week. Thank you to Mrs Rathbone, who came in to deliver a super session this week on how to keep our teeth healthy.

The Christmas fair was a lot of fun and Mrs Taylor cleverly tranformed me into the Grinch who stole christmas! It was great to see lots of year 2 children having a great time at the fair.

We also had a special visitor in school! Unbelievably, some of santa's elves have delivered and installed a 'santa cam' to make sure we are all on the 'good list' on the run up to christmas!

Next week we look forward to our Theatre trip to watch the 'Snow Queen' on Tuesday. Unfortunately, Mrs Pulle will not be in school again next week, but should hopefully be back in the first full week of December.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Mr McAulay
