Week Beginning 20th November
It was lovely to see so many of you at the Christmas Fair last night! Thank you to everybody that donated cakes and came to show your support. The children thoroughly enjoyed baking the treats that we sold on the cake stall, and wrapping them in the Santa cellophane. They were one of the most popular treats on the stall!
This week got off to a lovely start, with our wonderful trip to see Treasure Island at the New Vic on Monday afternoon. We then used this experience for our invention pieces in our English lessons to write all about the show. We were focussing on including adjectives and adverbs to create a vivid description in our recounts. The children worked eagerly on this and particularly enjoyed describing the dancing birds that we saw in the second half.
In Maths this week, we have been working with money. We started off by familiarising ourselves with the different coins and counting them up, understanding that you have to count up in the value of the coin. Later in the week, we progressed to comparing different amounts of money and adding up totals of different prices. The children also had to apply their previous knowledge of numberlines and adding three one-digit numbers to find the answers, which they did really well. The children were very interested in this topic and we are continuing to look at money in maths next week as well.
In Science this week we have been doing more extended writing. We refreshed our memories about our work on hygiene; what this means and the different ways we can be hygienic. Then we wrote different instructions on how to do these things, including how to brush your teeth and how to wash your hands. The children used their knowledge of instructional writing brilliantly and even got to copy their work out onto publishing paper.
In topic we have been finishing off our oil pastel drawings of scenes from the Great Fire of London.
Rehearsals for our nativity play our well underway and it is starting to take shape beautifully. The children have all got their lines stapled in the back of their reading diaries, and it would be fantastic if they could practise these at home.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!
