Week beginning 1st May
Date: 5th May 2017 @ 4:07pm
It has been a lovely week with the children this week. We have been rather busy but it is so nice to see the children eager to learn and engaging with lots of challenging activities.
In Literacy we have been publishing our innovation stories which are nearly ready to go up onto our publishing pegs. The children are now taking so much pride in their work and it is showing with their attention to detail and improved presentation. We have also started to plan our own stories that we intend to write next week. These stories have captured their imagination and I cannot wait to share with them you.
In Maths we have been measuring capacity. At the start of the week we explored jugs and millilitres. Then we moved onto measuring water and rice, looking specifically measurements bigger than 100. Today we moved onto looking at with different containers, specifically focusing on the maximum capacity and the unit of measurement. Please see the attached pictures.
In science we explored the habitats in which woodlouse live in. We went out into the woodlands and found the sorts of material they tend to gather.
In our topic lessons this week we learnt how to make porridge for the Three Bears. The children used their skills of measuring to ensure we had the correct quantities. Then they mixed these together before putting it into the microwave. With the end product we added golden syrup and let the cool down.
Just a quick reminder about the phonics meeting next Thursday; it will start at 3.30pm and last for around 20 minutes. The intentions of the meeting to ensure all parents are fully aware of the phonics screening process. If anyone cannot make it but would like the information then please let me know.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
