Week beginning 10.1.17
Date: 15th Jan 2017 @ 7:06pm
Good evening and Happy New Year! I hope you have all had a relaxing weekend. Year 2 had a great start to the new year. We enjoyed hearing all about the children's holiday news. It sounds like the holidays were both exciting and relaxing. Thank you so much again for all of your generous gifts before the Christmas holidays.
This week in phonics we were learning about words with an 'ey' ending and looked at the fact that when you add an s to make these words plural, that you don't drop the y and add ies, but merely add an s in most instances. Well done to our star speller Darci!
This week in English, we found a beanstalk growing in our classroom and 4 gold coins! We started to learn the story map for Jim and the Beanstalk and wrote a diary extract and a thank you letter. The children then completed some display work, which we are hoping to put up this week.
In maths we looked at place value, in order to consolidate our prior knowledge, looking at greater than, less than, rounding and estimating.
In RE we started our Kingdom of God topic, while in PE we started hockey with Mr Jones on Tuesday. In science we were looking at various materials and their properties, such as whether they sink or float.
Thank you once again for your help with homework and spellings.
Some of you may have seen my fantastic news in the newsletter. My wife and I are expecting our first baby. We know that she is a girl and have our hearts set on the name Elsie!
We say goodbye on Friday to Miss Peak and Mr Higginson, who have both been with year 2 since October. I am sure you will join me in wishing them both good luck for the future in their training and careers.
In case anyone is unaware, we will be having a meeting regarding the residential trip to Beeston tomorrow at 6pm. I look forward to seeing many of you at school for this meeting.
If you have any questions or queries please get in touch.
