Week Beginning 05/12/2016
Date: 3rd Dec 2016 @ 8:56pm
This week was extremely exciting and hopefully very enjoyable for all the children. They met John Bishop, went on a theatre trip to see 'The Snow Queen' and watched Reception’s Christmas nativity. We had a fabulous Bible explorer lesson this week in which pupils continue to explore the New Testament through drama and storytelling. In English, children wrote their own versions of 'Until I met Dudley...’. They are continuing to innovate the original text and extend their range of vocabulary.
As you already know, we have been focusing on multiplication in maths which led on to working out the area of rectangles, triangles and irregular shapes. Many of the key areas in maths require pupils to be fluent with their times tables. We have re-introduced beat the clock and other times table activities to strengthen their fluency. It would be extremely beneficial if you could continue to practise these with children outside of school.
Next week, children will be experiencing a Victorian Christmas afternoon. During our topic lesson, pupils will make Victorian Christmas tree decorations, small Victorian gifts and paper chains. Other activities will include; singing Christmas carols and parlour games.
In English, the children will continue to use 'Until I met Dudley...' to support their writing of factual explanations.
Finally, in maths will be using metric measurements. We will be building on the skills we have gained this week in area and begin to convert measurements and solve problems. If you have time this weekend you could begin to get the children thinking about different types of measurement. Below is a problem they might like to try.
Here are some interesting measurements and records from events at the Olympic Games. Unfortunately, they have been muddled up. Can you regroup them correctly?
