Year 3 WC 9th January 2017
Date: 7th Jan 2017 @ 8:17pm
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and that the children enjoyed a well-earned break after working so incredibly hard last term.
This term our new topic is the Romans which we will study for the whole Spring Term. The new overview which includes what we intend to cover in the different subject areas will be on the website soon.
This week we will be returning to place value, counting and mental addition and subtraction. While looking at mental strategies we will not be encouraging the children to use column addition and subtraction, but instead looking at the place value of the digits in order to solve additions and subtractions mentally. When doing homework, children are still encouraged to make jottings to help organise their thoughts.
In English we will be starting our new text, The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. Our focus will be mystery stories for next few weeks, however during the imitation stage we will be looking at setting descriptions using expanded noun phrases and writing and punctuating diaglogue correctly.
Our Science unit this half term will be Forces and Magnets so this week we will begin by asking 'what is a force?' and identifying different forces acting on objects.
In RE this week we will learning about how Christian communities are different. This will include describing the characteristics of different Christian communities, discussing their similarities and differences and what it means to belong there.
English and Maths homework will be set this week but due to the shorter week, both will be set on Tuesday. English will be due in on Thursday and Maths on Friday.
