Year 1 WC 12th November 2018
Date: 17th Nov 2018 @ 9:45pm
We've had a super busy week in Year 1. On Monday we had a brilliant trip to Nantwich Museum. I'm sure the children have enjoyed telling you all about the Great Fire of Nantwich, how it started and why it spread so quickly. They were particularly interested in the ingredients of the daub that the houses were made of. I was very impressed with how much they remembered when we wrote down some of the facts in our English work. We have been learning a model text of a recount so next week we'll be writing our own and adding much more detail.
In maths we have been looking at the relationship between addition and subtraction. For example, if 5 + 4 = 9, then 5 + 4 = 9, 9 - 4 =5 and 9 - 5 = 4. Next week we'll be continuing with subtraction looking at word problems. So far, we have been using the strategy of counting back on a number line to subtract. Next, we'll also look at finding the difference. So for example, I have 8 oranges and 12 apples. How many more apples do I have?
Rehearsals for our nativity, Straw and Order, are now well under way. If your child has been sent home with a line to learn, please help them to practise.
Please help to support our shoe box appeal and bring in a filled shoe box by Wednesday this week.
