wb31.3.25 Year 4
Date: 3rd Apr 2025 @ 2:52pm
Another term complete! Well done to Year 4 for all their hard work, not just this week but throughout this term.
We have completed a tremendous amount of work this week.
Firstly, we completed our wonderful fact files. Some wrote about penguins, most wrote about polar bears and one person even wrote about the salmon shark. The children took great ownership of the writing as they completed their plans with greater independence, informing their paragraph writing. Each child then edited their work with the help of a partner. The class have really enjoyed this project.
Also completed this week is our unit on decimals. As such, we worked on our end of unit check consolidating our knowledge of the past few weeks. We also completed our Spring Term assessments. Well done to the whole year for the dedication and concentration during these sessions.
We completed our journey with Chaya- The Girl who Stole an Elephant. After her trials and tribulations, Chaya is arrested and may face execution! The children had to consider the evidence for or against her- she had stolen the Queen's sapphire in order to help the poor people in her village. Children wrote a letter to plea for mercy or show their support for her arrest, depending on their conclusions from the evidence. It is a great book and has been thoroughly enjoyed by the class.
We have presented several assemblies this week. On Monday, members of Year 4 presented their thoughts on forgiveness. The children showed their maturity as they considered how difficult it is to forgive but how vital it is in order to be at ease and to build a cohesive society. We looked closely at Jesus' teachings to prepare us for this. On Tuesday, Mrs Field presented an Art of Brilliance assembly. Here, pupils from Year 4 shared their hopes and dreams for the future. Some wish to be authors, others Olympic medalists and one brave person would like to be an elephant tamer! Bonnie also delivered a speech that she would like someone to read at her 100th birthday. It was full of life and great experiences.
Our focus has very much been on the Easter story this week. Rev Sandi spoke to us about the origins of the Last Supper and Holy Communion. In class, we have been looking at the extraordinary forgiveness Jesus showed and the trust He had in God's plan and His disciples. We have completed work on both of these important aspects of Easter. On our last day, we also looked at Easter around the world. In Bessieres, 15,000 eggs go towards making a giant omelette. In Ethiopia, butterflies are made to create a display of regeneration. Painted hard boiled eggs are a traditional German and Latvian celebration.
As the week drew to a close, Isabella was Star of the Week and Indy was voted the top 2%er. Both very well deserved.
We hope you have a fabulous break and wish you a very Happy Easter.
