And amazingly, there is only one week left of this half term!
We’ve had great fun this week with our newspaper writing. Every good newspaper article must have someone’s account of what happened, surely. Well, this week a real-life sailor came to tell us what they saw off the coast last week and it was quite surprising! Particularly as the sailor looked very much like Miss Mitton. This interview gave us a wealth of quotes we can use in next week’s write. It will also give us a great opportunity to practise our direct speech writing, using inverted commas “…”.
Our maths became quite tricky this week as we began to subtract 4-digit numbers which require an exchange or two. Subtraction and addition in column method is covered in our homework this week so if you encounter any problems, please do not hesitate to let me know.
We completed our unit in Computing this week, as we used data from our surveys to create excel spreadsheets. Here, we learnt to freeze panes and format with certain conditions.
Our music lessons continued as we began to control our pizzicato (plucking) across our strings and worked on a comfortable posture. I am very impressed by the quality of the sound they are making, as well as their beautiful singing.
In our Spanish lesson this week, we practised asking each other how are you (Como estas?) and replying (estoy bien/mal/mas o menos). We also made sure we knew how to write this.
Our Science lessons were great fun as we continued to classify creatures. Mr Cotton took us on an elaborate game of Guess Who? As we worked out a species from its attributes. This also tied in with PSHE this week as we looked at the similarities we have with our friends and also the differences. We first looked at our visible features but then began to delve a little further to attributes we can’t see. This developed some lovely conversations. Apparently, Issy and Isabel both love to sunbathe!
In Guided Reading, we are enjoying some atmospheric poetry which use some evocative language to bring the rainforest to life. Wild World brought us such words as ‘perilous’, ‘nectar’, ‘precious’, ‘lurked’ and ‘lure’ which will no doubt come in handy later in the year!
This week, our key times tables were the 4s again. This is beginning to become fluent. Plenty of practice at home will develop this further. To help, why not try Hit the Button:

Next week, the 3s!
As the week drew to a close, Max and Luke both recieved certficates for a wonderful week of learning. Congratulations to them. Sophia and William have both been working on a welness presentation which they gave during today's assembly. Well done to them too!
We hope you have a wonderful weekend.
