wb 4.6.24 Year 4

Date: 6th Jun 2024 @ 3:10pm

A fabulous first week back for Year 4.

We have begun our Flourish project with gusto! As you will see from the photos, we have been very creative this week. We have begun a journal, but not just an ordinary diary. The children have made their own from scratch out of card, wool, paper, leaves...in fact whatever they want to make it out of. In the weeks to come, they will add pages as and when they need. It is hoped that they will use these for artwork, poems, thoughts, plans for the future- whatever they feel. Today, we began the journal with some key questions: Where are you emotionally at the moment? What would you like to develop? What are your current worries? We intend to look at ways of dealing with problems and developing strengths and weaknesses over the half term. Then at the end of term, we will revisit these first few thoughts and see if we feel as if we have grown. This is hoping to develop the key school value of Wisdom.

Today's Forest School was also all about tending to our garden and spending time with nature- a key strategy for maintaining wellness. The children each have a pot growing seeds and it is hoped these will come home for the summer holidays so you can continue the project at home. We also began our meditation/calm zone. This has a musical area as well as a tactile area.

Besides this, we have been working hard as usual on our curriculum maths and english.

In English, we have begun a half term of writing based on fact. We begin with biographies. We will be using the books Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls and Stories for Boys who Dare to be Different. These are short articles about influential figures, for example David Attenborough, Frida Kahlo and Louis Braille.

In Maths, we have begun looking at shapes and their properties. We have also looked at types of triangles. We have equilateral, isoceles and scalene. It was a fun lesson when we attempted to fold paper to make an example of each!

RE has focussed on the end of our Church unit, asking What Makes a Church? The children have been developing posters linking our school values to key comment in Paul's letter to the Romans, as in the New Testament. We will also write about why we made key choices in our poster.

We have begun a new project in Music: playing a harmonic accompaniment to Because He Lives. The YouTube video is via this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFIr8-gH55E Over the next few weeks, we hope to perfect our performance and add a video to our class page.

As the sun shone this afternoon, Year 4 met their new gardening buddies in Reception and helped water, dig and sow the new plots they are working on. This will now be a weekly event. Definitely another school value of Community.

Everyone left looking forward to the weekend. I hope you all have a lovely recharge over the weekend and look forward to seeing you next Monday.
