Reception WB 23rd October 2017

Final Week!
The children have now completed their first half term at school and they should be very proud of themselves. They have all made excellent progress and we can't wait to see what the next half term has in store!
In Maths this week we have been learning about 2D shapes. The children thoroughly enjoyed hunting for shapes around the school and making them out of playdough. We discussed their properties and challenged the children to guess the shape from the clues given.
In Literacy we have been looking at the story 'Each Peach Pear Plum' and we have used this to investigate rhyming words. The children completed a number of matching activities before we wrote a class rhyming story together.
Our Phonics sounds this week have been f (down the flower, draw the petals) and l (down the long leg). Miss Goff's group have been exploring end sounds and Miss Sherliker's group have been investigating the tricky sound th (thin, that). Please try to practise reading and writing words containing the sounds we have covered over the holidays as this will help keep their confidence high.
This week we have also started to learn our Nativity songs. The children selected three roles they would like to play in the Nativity and we have allocated roles accordingly. Letters have been sent home detailing costume requirements but if you have any issues please do come and speak to us.
Finally, thank you for taking the time to come and meet with us during Parent Consultations. We hope you found them useful and informative. Remember we are always there to help at the start or the end of the school day so please do come in and chat if you have questions or queries.
We hope you have a relaxing half term and enjoy this special time together.
