We have achieved a lot in a short time this week.
A focal point of this week was still Easter. On Thursday morning, KS2 walked down en masse to St Oswald's for our Easter Service. Different this year was that the service was mostly led by the children with Rev Sandi. Five Year 4 children read beautifully, representing our class admirably. We lifted the roof with some glorious singing, thanked Rev Sandi and then returned back to school in sunshine- a lovely morning.
As it is the beginning of term we have begun different topics and books across our curriculum. In English, we begin The Journey- a narrative piece of writing which will see a mother and her children flee for their lives. Their journey will become progressively more treacherous but we hope for a happy ending. This week, we have been considering how someone would react in a threatening situation, particularly as a parent and have written a character description of their actions and feelings.
Guided Reading has been particularly exciting this week as we begin Where Zebras Go. We have looked at poems that are in the shape of pictures (concrete poems) as well as riddles and metaphors.
In Maths, we have continued our work on Decimals, partitioning decimals flexibly. For instance, 0.39 could be separated into 0.3 and 0.09. Alternatively, it could be 0.1 and 0.29. These variety of answers are the flexibility of the partitioning.
This afternoon, we have enjoyed the beginning of our new unit on The Church. We have been asking what makes a church. Does it need walls and a roof? What are the essential elements of a church? The children had great fun designing beautiful spaces and planning activities that would bring people together in their church.
Congrautlations to Year 4 for some good spelling reults. This week, we have focussed on words with silent gh (bought, dough), ir words (irregular) and re words (recover, redo).
We celebrated our two new members of Year 4 today, Darcey and Maggie, who have shown great character throughout the week, making new friends and really getting stuck in.
Our 2%er this week was Bowe- well-deserved after some fantastic sentence writing.
Finally, a big welcome to our new member of the Year 4 team, Mrs Harrison, who joined us this week. It is fabulous to have her with us.
Wishing you a gentle weekend and looking forward to next week and all its adventures.
