W.B 17.9 Year 4
Date: 21st Sep 2018 @ 4:01pm
Afternoon all,
A lovely week had by all in year 4. We have continued our learning on place value in maths this week by manipulating 4-digit numbers to show our understanding of thousands, hundreds, tens and units. Within this, we have also learnt about the link between the numbers of hundreds needed to make one thousand.
In English we have been delving deeper into the minds of authors when they are creating a setting. We looked at how different authors use a range of language and writing techniques such as personification, similes and metaphors in order to hook the reader and give them a vivid image of the setting. Following on from this, we tried to apply our knowledge to a setting description of our own before creating a diary entry from the point of view of Wesley.
We have planned our own investigation in science this week looking at the key questions we will look to answer, an equipment list needed to carry out the experiment, the method we will follow and finally the predictions we will make. Next Monday, we will carry out the experiment and learn about ways to present our data.
Looking forward to next week, Tuesday is our first school visit of the year as we travel to Tatton Old Hall. Whilst there, we are spending the day as a Tudor peasant and experiencing what life would have been like for these people. The children are encouraged to join us in costume for the day as we look to gain the most we can from the trip. As a word of caution, the hall can be cold at this time of year so it is important that your child has a coat and suitable footwear as part of the day involves crossing grassy areas.
Mrs Tice will be joining us again on Wednesday for a music lesson therefore the children will need to bring their instruments into school on that day.
Finally, I hope you have a wonderful weekend as I know some of you are off on adventures to Leicester and Wales this weekend. If you're not travelling anywhere, enjoy a well-earned break and I look forward to seeing all of you on Monday.
Mr Stanway
