Summer term welcome
Date: 29th Apr 2015 @ 5:25pm
For this Summer term Year 3’s spotlight author is Roald Dahl. He has written a variety of books that will appeal to children of Year 3 age. His books are widely available to buy or to borrow from libraries.
The aim is for your child to enjoy six or more of these books from now until the end of the year. This can be in the form of your child reading to you, or you reading one of the texts to your child as a bedtime story. When they have finished one of these books your child should write a book review and bring it in to school so I can display these around the classroom. I have had some brilliant book reviews this year, so thank you! We are reading George’s Marvellous Medicine, so please do not read this one with your child!
We will be learning about Brazil and the rainforest this term. We have already made a rainforest for our Amazon adventure (see website for pictures). During the topic the children will be studying the climate, culture and landmarks of Brazil. They will experience Brazilian cooking, make a float for the Rio carnival and study Brazilian artists, whilst creating rainforest artwork. Furthermore we will look at the plants and wildlife found around the equator and the tropics and focus on the rivers, cities and countries of South America. We only have three weeks left of swimming. Your child will be building up their stamina to do distance badges in this time. Could you please check at home to see what distance badge your child has completed and write a note in their planner for me.
I hope you have had a great Easter and are all well.
Mr Jones
