SATs Meeting
Date: 3rd Mar 2016 @ 12:37pm
Thank you to those who managed to attend yesterday. I do hope the information was useful. I understand some of you had unavoidable work commitments. I have attached the PowerPoint used and hope that the following information is useful.
Questions Asked
Where will children complete the tests?
Children will work in the classroom. This is a more familiar environment for them and should help them feel less anxious. Displays which could give help in the test will be covered or taken down for that week.
Will there be booster classes?
We do not intend to have additional classes before and after school. We have high expectations for children during the school day and your children work hard to meet these. This means topics can be covered as part of our normal teaching. We are using around 40 minutes each afternoon to revise some of the work which has been covered earlier in KS2 as well as specific terminology children need to know. This work is in the pink revision book which children are bringing home each evening. Please take a look and discuss the topics with children.
What about children who will find the test hard?
All children have been prepared for topics covered on the tests and are demonstrating that they are working at the level assessed by the tests. Each test will begin with easier questions and get harder towards the end. They should focus on the questions they can do and try their best with others. Please reassure your children at home that we only ask them to do their best.
Will children complete sample tests in class?
Children have had the opportunity to work under test conditions. We avoid doing too much of this as it has little impact on their learning. We are looking at test style questions as part of normal English and maths lessons as well as in revision sessions. This will enable children to confidently tackle questions in the real tests.
Should you have any further questions, please come and speak to me rather than leaving them until parent consulataions.
Many Thanks,
Mrs Wood
