Reception's Blog Week Beginning Monday 2nd November

Date: 5th Nov 2020 @ 4:58pm

Welcome back to school everyone! This week has flown by and the children have shown us just how grown up they have become. We have been very lucky this week to welcome an additional member of staff to Reception, Miss Gadsby. Miss Gadsby will be working with us each morning and all day on a Wednesday. She will be supporting our outdoor learning during the first session in a morning as well as the personal, social and emotional development of the class.

In Literacy, we have been started our new story ‘Juniper Jupiter’. On Monday we came into the classroom to find a variety of costumes left around on the floor. After some discussion, we decided that they must have been brought to us by Cinderella as loves to play in our classroom, but no! Juniper Jupiter is a new character, and we discovered that she must have been to visit our classroom whilst he was looking for her sidekick. The children went on to write down some of the superpowers that she has before learning the story using our ‘talk for writing’ signs.

Learning about different times of the day has been our focus in Maths this week. We started by looking at what may happen at different times of the day such as the morning, afternoon and evening, before going on to look at daytime and night-time.  As well as learning the vocabulary morning, afternoon and evening we have been talking about before and after. These activities will be added into our continuous provision for us to carry on learning with next week.

Our topic work this week has been focussed on Bonfire Night, our safety and superhero skylines. On Monday we began to look at Vincent Van Gogh and his skyline drawings before going on to using scissors to cut out buildings and create our own skylines. On Tuesday we began to look at bonfire night and created our own firework pictures using the technique of splatter painting and leaf patterns. We finished these off on Wednesday before looking at how we can stay safe whilst being around bonfires and fireworks. Ask your children about ‘stop, drop, roll’ and see if they can tell you how to put out fire on clothes. On Thursday, we explored our emotions by looking at the story of ‘The Colour Monster’ with Mrs Edwards and this afternoon we have been superhero litter collectors and been around school collecting rubbish.

As you can see it has been a rather busy week, but we are very much looking to Monday morning and having lots of fun with superheroes again next week.

Our Forest School afternoon will now be on a Tuesday afternoon, so please could the children come to school with a pair of wellies each Tuesday.

On Friday 13th November (next Friday) it is Children in Need, so we are having a non-uniform day to raise money. If you are able to donate £1, please send it in with your child on the day.

A final sidenote, we have added all homework to Showbie (our home learning platform) this week, so in order to access it please look on there.

We hope you have a restful weekend and enjoy time with loved ones.
