Reception's Blog Week Beginning Monday 11th October

Date: 15th Oct 2021 @ 4:39pm

As I’m sure you can imagine it has been quite a tiring week for Reception. By this time in the term the Reception children in particular are very tired but they have done so well. We hope you enjoy looking through some of the photos of the activities they have been up to this week.

In phonics this week we have been doing the letters p,i,t. We know this is quite a stretch for them at this time in the term so next week we will spend the week recapping these and adding them into CVC words. We have learnt the sounds m,a,s,d,t,i,n & p so please do continue to practise these at home with your child.

In Literacy, we have been establishing the missing initial sounds in words. The words were repeated to the children and then they were asked to fill in the gaps. It was wonderful to see the children’s faces lighting up when they realised they could read words. Do encourage them to show you this at home for words such as: dot, mat, sat, sad, dog, at, it, in & is.

In Maths, we have been learning all about the number 5 as well as proving our number knowledge and comparing within 5. We have continued our work on finding more but also introduced the concept of fewer. The children have found this a little more tricky but we are getting there.

During our afternoon sessions this week, we have looked at what makes us unique after reading the story ‘Something Else’ by Kathryn Cave. We have listened to the Good News that the Bible brings us and read about the story of The Good Samaritan. We have had Forest Schools where we looked at acorn craft and finally explored different types of movement in PE.

Next week is our last full week before the half term break, we break up on Friday 22nd October. On Monday and Wednesday, we have our parent consultation appointments. We have our PTA meeting on Wednesday evening at 6pm, all new parents are welcome to join. On Friday we have a non-uniform day as well as our pumpkin trail. Children are asked to bring something for the Christmas tombola with them for the non-uniform day. For the pumpkin trail, a letter will be arriving over the weekend from Mrs Pulle in Year 1.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes
