Reception's blog - w/b Monday 5th July
Date: 9th Jul 2021 @ 3:47pm
Good afternoon everyone!
Firstly, I know that Miss Wellings greatly enjoyed spending time with you to discuss the children on Tuesday for parent consultations - although it's fair to say that she regretted her choice of footwear fairly soon into the morning as it was a little on the cool side outdoors! I hope that you are all delighted with the progress that your child has made and are proud of some of the lovely comments in their first school report too.
This week we have been writing non-fiction reports using our beach topic as the stimulus and talking about our favourite holidays. Next week, we shall be writing postcards. I guess that in the world of Facebook and Instagram, the sending of holiday postcards has gone a little out of fashion, but if you do have any nice examples at home, please do send them in with your children to share!
In maths, we have been measuring and weighing using scales to show which item is taller and shorter, heavier and lighter, which the children have really enjoyed. We are nearing the very end of the Early Years curriculum so next week I think we only have 3D shapes to cover before the children move up to Year 1.
This week in PE, we have been practising a little for our Sports Day, next Friday. Although further up the school, children are in planet groups with associated colours, but as a result of having classes in bubbles, so far Reception class have not been put into these planet teams. Friday is our usual PE day in any case, so we will put coloured bands on the children over their PE kit rather than asking you to dress them in a particular colour. As you will have been informed, parents are sadly not permitted to attend but we will be videoing the races for uploading to our secure Facebook site later that day.
I hope that you enjoy the weekend, and if you are cheering on the England men's football team on Sunday night we can keep fingers crossed that it ends in a spectacular victory!
