Reception’s Blog - Week Beginning Monday 27th January

Date: 29th Jan 2020 @ 2:55pm

Time is flying so quickly in Reception and we can’t quite believe where the year is going.

The part-Whole Model has been introduced in Reception this week and the children have absolutely loved having a clear structure to follow when it comes to adding. We started off by adding to 5, then 10 and finally moved on to 20; some of the children moved on using bigger numbers up to 100.

In Literacy this week we have been practising our skill of listening to a story without pictures. We have then gone on to draw pictures to match what we believe the story may have looked like. Alongside learning new vocabulary like ‘illustrator’, we have enjoyed creating our own story books.

Building ramps and varying speed, using natural materials like Andy Goldsworty and making dream catchers have made up our topic lessons this week.

This week we have introduced rainbow challenges. This is where the children have an independent challenge in each area to complete which implements their learning. Each challenge is colour coded and the children are asked to complete all of them by the end of the week. It has proven to be very successful so far.

All children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the ‘bounceathon’ this week. The message that this event had behind it has been at the forefront of many discussions throughout the week. Thank you to everyone who donated.

Have a lovely weekend,
