Reception's Blog - Week Beginning Monday 12th November

Date: 16th Nov 2018 @ 4:00pm

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Reception!

The Nativity is in full swing and everyone has loved learning their lines and getting to know the songs. We’re already so excited to share the occasion with you!

In literacy this week, we have introduced the children to “The Gruffalo” by Julia Donaldson – our spotlight author. We were sure that a Gruffalo had been in our classroom as we found an ice cream scoop, a whisk and a roasting tin. We wrote descriptions of what he looked like so the rest of the school knew who to look out for. We have also sequenced the story and been on a hunt out in the woods.

In maths, we have focused our learning on adding two numbers together. The children used Numicon to represent each number and they were challenged to work independently. We’re so proud of how hard they are all working and it’s fantastic to see how their confidence is growing.

We have made reading a big part of our week. The children have looked at how to use their ‘Fred Fingers’ when feeling a little unsure about what the words say. We have also looked at full stops, finger spaces and using capital letters at the beginning of a sentence as well as for people’s names.

A little reminder that next Friday will be a non-uniform day. We ask that the children bring along with them a bottle to contribute to the bottle tombola. This can be anything from a bottle of pop or juice to a bottle of something alcoholic.  We do ask that if it is anything alcoholic, you take it straight to the office during morning drop off.

Enjoy your weekend and we look forward to seeing the children on Monday!
