Reception's Blog - Week Beginning Monday 2nd March
Date: 6th Mar 2020 @ 3:41pm
It really is scary where the time is going. Today we started our transition to year 1 by working as a whole class with quiet music to help us concentrate. We were incredibly proud of the determination and hard work by all children. We will gradually increase this between now and the end of the Reception to ensure the children are ready for Year 1.
In Literacy this week, we have been learning all about our story ‘Star in the Jar’. We have worked as a class to learn the actions for the story before performing it to Mrs Wood. She was very impressed with how much of the story we knew as well as the accuracy of the actions. In addition to this we have been completing some rainbow writing; this is where we use a different colour for each sentence to gain a good understanding of where a full stop should sit in a piece of writing.
Number bonds to 10 has been our focus in maths this week. We started off by singing ‘ten green bottles’ before using counters and tens frame. We began by looking at what we would add to 1 to get to ten before working methodically and getting to 9.
We had our lovely visit to the library this week, please see the blog post for more details.
In topic this week we have been designing speedy spaceships to get the star back to his friends. The children used oil pastels to create vibrant coloured patterns before adding glittering and different textiles.
For some additional homework this week, please encourage the children to demonstrate their knowledge of number bonds to 10.
If you have not yet seen the email, our topic web has been updated with some additional key dates for our ‘Stay and Make’, Mothering Sunday Service and Messy Church. Again, if you have any queries please contact us.
We do have consultations coming up a week on Monday and Tuesday. Please do book this appointment so we are able to discuss the progress that your child is making.
Have a wonderful weekend and see you on Monday.
