Reception's Blog - Week Beginning Monday 25th February
Date: 1st Mar 2019 @ 8:21am
What an exciting week it has been in Reception! On Tuesday morning we found something peculiar outside our classroom door. We went to investigate and found ice, snow, a nest and a cardboard box. Inside the cardboard box there was a note that read: “I’ve gone to find a friend. I am sorry that I have had to leave but I feel so lonely. From Penguin”.
We knew straight away that this penguin needed our help so we set off to make “LOST” posters with details of what to keep an eye out for. They must have worked because we soon found a lonely, little penguin named Mabel and a story called ‘Lost and Found’. After discovering that Mabel had come from the South Pole, we wrote letters to Mrs McLean to see if we were allowed to take a trip to return Mabel to her home. Although she agreed that Mabel needed a new home, she suggested that we perhaps take Mabel somewhere she wouldn’t feel so lonely – a wildlife park! So, we got on to it straight away and we arranged a trip to go and visit Peak Wildlife Park.
Our focus in maths this week has been teen numbers. The children started by putting teen numbers into the correct order and then matched it with the corresponding picture. Our next step was to make the number using Numicon. The children were able to demonstrate that they knew the one represented a 10.
Next week is a very exciting week! On Tuesday we are celebrating World Book Day early so the whole school are able to participate. Please come dressed as your favourite book character, accompanied by your book if you already own it – please don’t feel you have to go out and buy it. Alongside this, we will be using our afternoon to celebrate Shrove Tuesday by making and eating delicious pancakes. Please speak to us if have any queries.
