Reception's Blog - Week Beginning Monday 24th February
Date: 28th Feb 2020 @ 4:04pm
In maths this week we’ve been focusing on tally charts and gathering data as we closely linked this to Pancake Day. We wrote a list for Miss Wellings to take to the shops to buy the toppings before making the pancakes and enjoying them on Tuesday morning. We linked this with our literacy session and wrote questions to ensure that we got our favourite toppings.
We have linked this to our RE topic and looked closely at Lent and what it means. The children understand the fact that Jesus didn’t eat food or have anything to drink for 40 days and 40 nights, so when we decide to give up something for Lent we will take this time to think about Jesus.
It has also been a rather peculiar week because we found some glitter dust and a shimmering star on the writing station when we came in from playtime. We gathered many ideas for where the dust could have come from before asking some of the children around the school. Rosamai, from Year 1, informed us that there was a story linked to these objects. Surprisingly, she was able to find us the book, ‘Star in a Jar’ by Sam Hay. The children have loved building rockets and designing jets to try and return the lost star to space.
This week we would like the children to recap the sounds ‘or’, ‘ar’, ‘igh’ and ‘ee’ during their reading time.
Have a lovely weekend.
