Reception's Blog - Week Beginning Monday 19th November

Happy Friday! As always, we’ve had another lovely week here in Reception.
In literacy this week, we have continued to learn ‘The Gruffalo’ so we’re able to recite the whole story. We’ve also been innovating the story by changing the three characters that the mouse bumps into as well at the title character. Some stories included tigers, lions and snow monsters and others had butterflies, ladybirds and snails! We’ve had great fun changing the story and we can’t believe the high standard of writing that the children have shown us this week. Keep up the good work!
In maths this week we have introduced the children to money. We’ve tried to show that it’s not about the total of coins you have but the numbers that they represent. To do this, we’ve matched the coins with their appropriate Numicon so the children are able to visualise their worth depending on the largest and smallest totals. The children’s homework challenge this week is focused on money to help support what we’ve worked on in class.
Our nativity practice is in full swing and we’ve been able to take it to the big stage this week. The children are all working so hard to be the best that they can be for you and we can’t wait to share it with you. Please encourage your children to rehearse their lines as much as possible and work on volume and projection at home.
Also, a big thank you to all who brought in a bottle today. The PTA thinks it is the most they’ve ever received so it’s a huge thanks to you. We hope that you’ll all get the chance to experience our wonderful Christmas fair next Friday 30th. As an additional support, we having another non-uniform day next Friday in return for homemade sweetie jars or little, unopened gifts that you don’t need. These will go on other stalls on the night.
