Week beginning Monday 16th September
It’s been a rather busy week here in Reception and we would like to start by congratulating everyone for their attendance this week – it has been wonderful to see the children building their resilience and attending school full time.
In phonics this week, we have been learning the letters m, s and d. The children have done so well with remembering different rhymes and attempting to write each of the letters. However, over the next couple of weeks, we will be focusing on building the muscles in the children’s hands to help them hold and write with a pencil more confidently. This is something that you can support at home by using play dough or pegs.
In Literacy, we have been exploring our class text and looking at the character’s feelings. As we have introduced ‘talk for writing’ this week, the children have done well with understanding the different actions when retelling the story.
In Maths, we have been looking at the number 1 & 2. The children were confident with writing the number one and finding a single object, so we quickly moved on to looking at 2. The children weren’t sure about pairs of objects at first but as we starting to explore our bodies, we found out we have 2 eyes, 2 ears, two knees and even two elbows. As we started to write the number two, together we learnt the rhyme to help us remember the correct formation – ‘half a heart says I love you, draw a line says number two.’
We have also been exploring families as a class this week and discussing who lives with us in our house. This has been related back to our class text and it has been wonderful to hear about some of the children’s most treasured memories.
I would just like to inform those parents who weren’t at the meeting that our trip to Blue Planet Aquarium has been postponed until the summer term. In the interests of the children, we feel as though the distance to travel and the demands of the trip are too much at this point in the year. If you do have any queries about this, please do come and see me.
Our homework this week in Reception is to practise writing the letters ‘m’ and ‘s’ as well as forming the number 2 correctly. You will find the guidance for this in their book bag on laminated sheets. This will help us move forward with learning our new letters next week.
Next week is another busy week for us here in Reception. We would like to remind you about our Harvest celebration, coffee morning and ‘Stay and Make’ morning that is running next Friday from 9.15am in the main hall. If you have any questions, please just give us a call.
Have a lovely weekend.
