Reception's Blog - Week Beginning Monday 13th January

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 4:23pm

What a wonderful week it has been! We have spent time exploring our new topic story, made clay hedgehogs, experiment movement through role play and completed work on numbers 1-10.

At the start of the week in Literacy, we showed our understanding of our class story by suggesting what may be down the ‘hole’ and adding in exciting adjectives to create exciting sentences. We then made a list of the items we may need to make an animal’s home from before moving on to writing full sentences with conjunctions. The children are showing the sounds that they know as well as demonstrating a good understanding of how letters are formed. In phonics we have moved on to looking at the sounds igh, oa, or & oy this week and you will find these in their bags to practise at home.

In Maths, we have been looking at the ‘part whole model’ and finding different ways to separate the number 4,5 and 6. The children gained a great understanding of how the model works and how numbers can be broken down in to many different combinations. In addition to this, we have looked at the numbers 7 and 8 – the way they are formed and how to make the numbers using counters.

In topic this week we have thoroughly enjoyed making clay hedgehogs. We started by looking at the materials we may use before beginning to work with clay. The children were able to manipulate the clay to make the shape of a hedgehog before adding spaghetti and golden balls as eyes and spikes.

In PE we have been exploring with movement whilst pretending to be the animals from the story. Please see attached pictures.

It has been brought to my attention that some parents are a little concerned about the fact that there hasn’t been a parents evening yet for Reception. Although I am aware that this is not ideal, please be reassured that if there were any concerns about progress I would have spoken to you in order address these at the earliest convenience. We do have spring parents evening coming up on Monday 16th March and Thursday 19th March and this will provide an opportunity to discuss the progress the children are making, but if you require an appointment see me before then, please feel free to come in and speak to me and we will find a suitable time. In addition to this, if you would like the chance to have another look at their books, just bob in and they will be available. Please accept my apology for Autumn's parents evening not taking place, but rest assured we are extremely delighted with how all children are progressing.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
