Reception's Blog - W/B Monday 6th May 2019

Date: 12th May 2019 @ 10:41pm

The weeks are just flying by!

Firstly, I would like to apologise for this blog being a little later than normal. I was hoping to be able to share some exciting stories with you through this post but unfortunately the QR codes that I have been trying to use have been unsuccessful.

Police visits, inventing stories and counting to 100 made last week very busy! On Wednesday were extremely lucky to have Jimmy and Stuart in to visit us from Sandbach Police Station. They were able to show us around their police car and van, talk to use about the different communicate devices as well as the different jobs that they do on a daily basis. It was very clear that they are real superheroes, helping to keep the community safe.

We are at a point in our Literacy lessons now that we are able to invent our own narratives. Last week we invented problem stories. We used some ideas from the story of supertato and adapted the characters, settings and problems. Once we have a working QR code website, I hope to be able to share these with you all. In the meantime, why not ask your child to share these with you at home as we were blown away with some of the ideas and imagination.

In Maths we looked at one more and one less. Using a number line and counters the children found the numbers that come before and after. Although this was a little tricky at the start of the week, with continued practise they really have started to pick up and understand the concept. The homework this week have been related to this to help them develop a deeper understanding.

As we are approaching the end of Reception, it is essential that the children practise the sounds and complete their reading on a daily basis. I understand that it can be hard to fit in each day, but the more exposure the children have to these now, the more prepared they will be for their learning and home exercises in Year 1. If you have any queries or questions, please don’t hesitate to pop in and see me.

I hope you have all enjoyed the sunshine this weekend and are ready for another busy week.
