What another wonderfully, busy week!
This week in literacy we have introduced the children to the story of "The Three Little Pigs". We were surprised to come in from break time to find that our classroom had been taken over by The Three Little Pigs and they had left quite a mess behind. We had straw, bricks and lots twigs ALL over the carpet. We heard some strange noises coming from our classroom cupboard and although we thought the wolf was big, bad and scary at first, we soon found out that he was just really, really hungry. He apologised for scaring us and was soon back home once we'd promised him some yummy apple crumble. We continued our week with sequencing the story and becoming familiar with the characters.
In maths, we have been focusing on the number one and making sure our knowledge is completely secure. As well as writing the number one, we have also been on a treasure hunt to find it written in our classroom and collecting various objects showing the quantity.
Our first full week of phonics has been a successful one. We have focused on the sounds m, s and d. The children have been practising how to pronounce the sound as well as working hard on it's formation and being able to hear the initial sounds in words (mmmum, ssssock, ddddad). Please challenge your children to find items or objects that begin with these sounds and see if they're able to tell you how we write them. Each letter sound comes with it's own little rhyme that we've been working hard to remember.
The children have picked up the rules of the classroom and are responding to school life really well. We so pleased to have them in our classroom.
Please take a moment to look in your child's school diary to see this week’s updates and remember that Monday 24th is picture day.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Wellings and Miss Sherliker
