Remembrance Service Week...
What an emotional week! The children performed brilliantly at our Remembrance Service and their behaviour was excellent. Even I had a tear in my eye by the end of the service (which is most unusual!). You should all be very proud! Their performance has made me very excited about our Nativity. Our songs are already sounding rather good!!
This week in Literacy we have continued our work on The Elves and the Shoemaker. We have been busy writing speech bubbles to accompany pictures from the story.
In Maths we have been looking at addition. We have been using Numicon to solve sums to help us unlock our fairy tale characters. Some of us also learnt how to use a number line to solve addition sums. Any practise on addition that you could do at home would be extremely beneficial.
To support our church service we have been learning about Remembrance Day and we learnt about life in the trenches. We have also celebrated Diwali this week by making clay divas and shadow puppets.
The children’s reading and recognition of their High Frequency Words (HFWs) are coming on well. Visitors this week have positively commented on how much the children can do. Please remember to sign your child’s reading diary when you have read so we know to change their books (on a Tuesday and a Friday). We are also counting up the number of nights the children have read and awarding certificates when they reach a given total. Your support and hard work at home really does make a huge difference to your child’s progress so thank you and well done!
Thank you for all of the donations to Children in Need today. There will be another non-uniform day on the 20th in return for donations for the Christmas Fair. We have postponed our Coronation Day (fancy dress) and this will now be on Monday 7th December.
Have a lovely weekend!
Kind regards
Miss Goff
