Week 8
It may have only been a four day week for the children but we have certainly packed a lot in! In Literacy we have continued to learn our T4W story ‘Captain Yellowbelly.’ We are hoping to video it next week and share it with you and others. We have written a message to go in a bottle and we have also explored how Yellowbelly felt at different points of the story. Here the children were introduced to new vocabulary such as anxious, livid and content.
In Maths we have focussed on solving subtraction sums using pirate treasure. On Tuesday we had lots of fun taking it in turns to be the 'minus,' 'subtract' or 'take away' pirates. This introduced the children to the different terms and reinforced that when we subtract the total gets smaller. Next, we used counters and pictures to help us solve problems, before moving on to drawing our own marks to calculate the answer. Solving subtraction sums is part of the Early Learning Goal (end of year expectation) so please practise at home and share observations on Tapestry.
This week we challenged the children to work more independently and they have amazed us with their resilience and maturity. This is something we will be continuing over the remainder of the school year. In addition, we have had a number of visitors in our class this week and they have commented on the pupils’ excellent behaviour, engagement and high levels of attainment. Well done everyone!
In the afternoons we have had lots of fun decorating pirate treasure chests, painting parrots, making ships' rats and constructing treasure bags.
Next week is Parent Consultations. These are a wonderful opportunity to discuss progress and next steps so we look forward to seeing you there. As pupils may not be able to attend, due to the time slots booked, please feel free to pop in Wednesday night and look through the books with your child. This will allow them an opportunity to tell you more about what they have learnt, how they feel they have improved and what they have enjoyed.
Have a lovely weekend!
