Reception WB 4th December
Date: 8th Dec 2017 @ 7:55pm
A Rather Busy Week!
Firstly, thank you to all parents for their support during the Ofsted inspection this week and we hope you were able to share your views of the school with the inspectors. The team were very friendly and it was lovely to share our work with them.
In Maths we have been investigating number bonds to 10. Santa asked us to help him identify how many present could go in each sack so we used practical resources to investigate this before sending our calculations back to him. We then looked at different items we could buy for 10p. If you wish to practise these skills further here re some useful links:

In Literacy we have starting looking at our new story, Harvey Slumfenburger’s Christmas Present. We were very surprised to find Harvey’s Christmas present in our classroom so we decided to try and return it to Santa. We wrote letters and posters, explaining what had happened. We also made predictions about what we thought might be inside the present and wrote these down. The children’s letter formation has really improved and they are beginning to sound out words and use finger spaces, sometimes independently. Excellent work Reception!
This week we have also been learning about Christmas traditions. We discussed what things we do at home and we then explored what they do in Kenya. Did you know they decorate mango or banana trees and receive practical presents, such as books, candles and sunglasses? We then learnt that we share a number of traditions with Germany, such as bringing in and decorating Christmas trees and eating gingerbread. However, unlike us, many children in Germany leave their shoes out on the 5th December, ready for St Nicholas to fill with treats. We thought we’d give it a go too and sure enough he visited! We also tried some delicious stollen at snack time. Next week, we will discover what other countries do to celebrate this wonderful time of year.
Have a lovely weekend!
