Our Final Week!

I can’t believe we’ve reached the end of the Spring Term! It doesn’t seem two minutes since the children started school and next term will see us preparing them for Year 1. Where has the time gone?

The children have been busy this week writing some brilliant innovations of our class story ‘The Three Brave Pirates.’ We’ve had mermaids, knights and power rangers to name a few! They have then worked hard writing their stories, sounding out words independently and using spaces between their words. We have also been working hard on re-reading our work so we know what we have to write next and we have started to look at the use of full stops and capital letters. Even though they have worked incredibly hard in the morning lessons many children have chosen to write their own stories in their choosing time, which is marvellous!

In Maths, we have been learning about sharing amounts. We have been sharing gold coins between pirates and Easter eggs between rabbits. I was really impressed that the children were able to draw the solutions to their problems, as this will be a useful skill in Year 1 and Year 2 when they transfer this knowledge to multiplication and division. Well done everyone!

This week we have also been busy making some lovely Easter cards. We have included envelopes in case you wanted to send them to friends or relatives further afield.

Finally, on Friday we had a lovely time on our sponsored walk. The children were very determined and all pupils completed at least 8 laps on the school grounds. Some even managed more! After our walk, we enjoyed an Easter bonnet parade and cake. A big thank you for all of the sponsor money raised, it really makes a difference to our wonderful preschool. Well done to all of the pupils who made an Easter bonnet too, they were all excellent!

We finished the week with a traditional Easter egg hunt. Great fun was had by all!

Over the holidays please try to keep reading regularly and practise the phonics cards. We have also included some spellings in pupils’ reading diaries. These are words they have spelt incorrectly in their work, therefore they are unique to each child. We will note down any new words the children need to practise each week and share them with you on Friday. Thank you for your support.

Have a lovely Easter break and we will see you all on Tuesday 18th April.
