A Wonderful Autumnal Week…
This week the children have thoroughly enjoyed engaging in a number of different activities. In Literacy, we have continued our work on The Three Little Pigs. We have had lots of fun retelling the story and adding music to enhance it.
Our Maths focus this week has been on counting. The children were very eager to count how many chocolates were in the party bags, as well as counting acorns outside. They were careful to move the items into a line, count slowly and check their counting. We also progressed to counting objects that cannot be moved. We decided that if we put lines through each picture we would ensure we didn’t miss any out. This is a particularly important skill when counting large amounts.
To celebrate autumn we have created some paintings with Mrs Taylor. We have also used leaves to create pictures of animals.
In Phonics, we have been looking at the following sounds:
- n – down Nobby, over his net.
- p – down the pirate’s plait, back up and around the pirate’s face.
Please try to practise letter formation as often as you can. Why not write them in the mud or in shaving foam? Now we know a number of sounds, try to practise reading words by blending the sounds together (s-i-t = sit or h-a-n-d =hand). You could even have a go at writing them.
The highlight of our week was our wonderful visit to St Oswald’s church. The children had lots of fun exploring their church and acting out a wedding and baptism. Please see our gallery items for photos and videos. During our RE lesson we listened to the story of David and Goliath, and we discussed how God is always with us and will support us. We learnt the song ‘My God is so Big’ and the children had an opportunity to ask questions.
Finally, our French lessons saw us recap on how to say hello and goodbye, as well as tell others our name.
Don’t forget next Friday is our Harvest service. We have been busy practising a song to sing in church so we hope you are able to attend. We will be leaving school at 1:20pm and we would love for parents to join us in the walk down. If driving up to church we ask that you try not to pass the children on the lane.
We hope you have a fabulous weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
