Reception w/b 25th November
Date: 29th Nov 2024 @ 5:44pm
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Reception! This week, we have all worked together to decorate our classroom for the season. The children have been just thrilled to decorate the trees in particular and they were ever so careful when threading baubles onto branches. It really is a magical time and brings to mind the lyric ‘tiny tots with their eyes all aglow’. Wonderful!
Nativity preparations are in full swing as we have had three sessions in the hall this week. We have been blown away with how well the children have picked up the ‘flow’ of the performance, learning their cues, lines and positions ever so well. It promises to be a real treat! Please do refer to the newsletter to find out more about selecting tickets for the performance.
This week, whilst phonics, reading and name writing have continued, we have allowed plenty of time for child-initiated play and learning, so as not to place too much demand on the children in a busy week of preparations. Next week, after Tuesday’s performance, we shall return to a more normal routine for the children, with the addition of an abundance of festive enhancements. Christmas has well and truly arrived in Reception!
We have, however, thoroughly enjoyed exploring another focus text…Supertato! Our new story has inspired lots of enthusiastic independent provision writing, including making ‘Wanted’ posters for Evil Pea and sending messages to Supertato. Mr Simmons was keen to enhance our attempts to trap the Evil Pea. In Forest School, he provided us with materials and techniques for creating traps. A particular favourite involved weaving a web between tree trunks…I don’t know if we will capture the Evil Pea, but many teachers certainly became tangled in the traps!
PE was an absolutely joyous experience this week as each partnership had a balloon! As balloons fall more slowly to the ground than balls, they are wonderful for practising throwing and catching skills. During the lesson we: played ‘Simon Says’, placing the balloon on different body parts; practised rolling the balloon up and down our bodies and around our bodies without dropping it; practised patting the balloon to keep it off of the ground for as long as possible; practised throwing and catching the ball with our partners, trying to beat our records. The children worked beautifully together and we had so much fun!
What a festive week it has been! We are very much looking forward to welcoming you all to our performance on Tuesday. We are also excited for our first school trip on Wednesday afternoon – a visit to the theatre! Please do get in touch if you have any queries at all.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend and, as ever, want to thank you for all of your support.
