An amazing week to end a long first half term!
We have had an incredibly exciting week in Reception this week! On Monday we learnt all about the Hindu celebration of Diwali. Throughout the morning, we created beautiful henna patterns, draw some wonderful rangoli designs and constructed some clay diyas. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita and we learnt about how Hindus in the UK celebrate. The children did a fantastic job of drawing parallels between this festival and those we celebrate. This year the festival falls during our half term holidays so keep a look out on the news or when out and about for signs of people celebrating.
On Tuesday we had a lovely walk around the village looking out for signs of autumn. Obviously, we had to have a quick play at the park too!
Wednesday saw us journey up to Manchester to see Stick Man Live. The children behaved wonderfully both at the theatre and on the bus. The actors did a great job of bringing the story to life and the children’s faces were a real picture.
On Thursday our pupils were replaced with story book characters! It was lovely to teach the Gruffalo, witches, knights, princesses, cats, rats and robbers! Activities involved a book hunt, writing posters, sequencing ordinal numbers and matching ladybird spots to numbers. A big thank you to all parents for such fab costumes!
There has also been great excitement in our new role play area this week. Miss Cuthbert and Miss Stewart have worked tremendously hard to create a pet shop and the children have had lots of fun buying biscuits and caring for animals. Today Miss Goff’s dog came to buy treats from the children. She thoroughly enjoyed them; I just hope she wasn’t sick on the way home!
Thank you to all parents for attending Parent Consultations and for your lovely comments. We hope you found them useful and remember if you have any worries or concerns please do pop in.
So, as you can see the children have had a very busy week to end their first half term at school. They have coped with the new challenges and experiences tremendously well and they definitely deserve a rest! So have a lovely half term and we look forward to seeing you again on Monday 7th November.
