Haven't you Heard of a Gruffalo?

Our focus text this week has been one of our favourite stories...The Gruffalo.  We have had a wonderful time outside in the woods, hunting for objects beginning with particular sounds and at the end we came across the Gruffalo himself!  Luckily, he was very friendly! All that running around made us a little bit peckish so we made some delicious Gruffalo crumble.  We followed the instructions carefully and the end product was delicious! We shared some with Year 6 and they were so impressed they wrote a thank you letter, using just their phonics sounds, just like how we write.

In Maths we have been learning the names of 2D shapes and discussing their properties.  We made playdough shapes and went on a shape hunt around the school, spotting shapes all around us.

During the afternoons we have been learning how to mix primary colours in order to make secondary colours.  It was very messy but lots of fun! On Thursday we also explored autumnal colours outside as we made leaf roses. As we investigated the leaves we learnt the names of the trees we have in our school grounds.  Thursday also saw a very special visitor entering our classroom...Turbo the Tortoise! Thank you to Mrs Rathbone (Lawrence in Year 3's mum) for taking the time to come and show Turbo to the pupils.

Don't forget it is our trip to the Lowry Theatre on Wednesday and we expect to be back in school a little later than normal. I will keep you all updated via the website and the school office. We are also hoping to go on an Autumn walk on Tuesday so please ensure your child has a warm coat in school.  Thursday is our Julia Donaldson activity day. I can't wait to see all the children in their costumes! Preschool pupils will be joining us and we have lots of fun activities planned. It looks like we have another busy week ahead!
