Reception W/B 16th January 2017

Date: 20th Jan 2017 @ 8:06pm

Another SUPER Week!

The children have had a very busy week! In Literacy we have been changing the story of Supertato to make our own super stories. There have been ‘Super Hot Dogs’, ‘Super Rabbits’ and ‘Super Fabs’ to name but a few. We have been very impressed with the children’s imaginative ideas and story telling prowess! We have videoed the children telling their stories and there will be QR codes in their topic books that will link you to the video (unfortunately the files are too large to load to Tapestry). Please pop in if you want to have a look. Next week we will begin writing our stories.

The Evil Pea has been creating work for us in Maths too! Without being noticed, he has been capturing our toys! We have had to work hard to crack the secret codes that allow the toys to be released. This has involved us ordering a selection of numbers from smallest to biggest, or biggest to smallest. For homework please practise this skill using the following links:

We have also been investigating which drinks would be suitable for superheroes (and us!). On Monday we put five eggs (egg shells are the closest representatives to teeth) in five different drinks: orange juice, water, coke, milk and Ribena. We made predictions and discussed what we thought would happen. During the week we kept a close eye on our eggs and on Friday we emptied the cups for a closer look. Some of our results were very surprising! Looking at the photo below can you guess which egg was in which drink?

On Friday we celebrated Burns Night (a few days early!). We learnt about Robert Burns and about how Scots celebrate, before going into the hall to learn a traditional dance (The Dashing White Sergeant if you’d like to try at home!). Following these exertions we refuelled with some delicious haggis! Miss Goff and Miss Stewart loved it but Miss Sherliker was not keen!

Finally, today we also said goodbye to Miss Stewart. Miss Stewart has been working with us since October as part of her PGCE. She has been a fantastic addition to the team and has planned lots of lovely activities for the children. I know the children will miss her greatly (as will the staff!) so we have made her promise to visit and keep us updated! I am sure you will join me in wishing her well with the rest of her course.

Don’t forget our Stay and Make session is this Wednesday at 9am. We look forward to greeting our visitors.

Many thanks,

Miss Goff
