What a lovely week we’ve had, made even better by the sunshine.
In Literacy this week, we have focussed on ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson who is our spotlight author for this term. As well as acting out the story, we have highlighted the rhyming words in the text and used speech bubbles to write our own dialogue.
We’ve introduced time this week in maths and have been amazed at the children’s ability to recognise both o’clock and half past during their sessions. We discussed what the ‘long minute hand’ represented and how it differed from the shorter ‘hour hand’. As well as this, we have been challenged to organise a group of numbers from smallest to largest and vice versa. To make it tricky, we gave the children numbers that weren’t consecutive and some of those even went up to 100 – wow!
We kicked off the week with a visit from Simone, a local veterinary nurse from Holmes Chapel. She helped us understand the day to day life of a vet and how best to take care of our animals. This was a great experience as we now know how to role play in our new vet surgery and how to look after our little visitors – the tadpoles!
In science, we looked at the life cycle of a frog to help us understand what will happen to our tadpoles – each of which we’ve named (Sparkle, Fred, Wriggly, Arthur, Little toe, Shiny, Isabella amongst many more). We then created a visual spinning wheel to show the different stages of metamorphosis.
We took advantage of the glorious weather and made the most of our outdoor play area as well as having a yummy, cooling treat under the shade of the trees – ice lollies! Whilst being outside, we practised taking turns in P.E. We had to work as a team and collect as many team coloured flags as possible.
It’s been a great first week back and we hope you have a wonderful weekend.
